Building a one day idea accelerator event.
As part of the DHL Lions Series 2017, the Wellington Tech Ruck was a full-day event supported by NZTE, British High Commission, Westpac New Zealand, Robert Walters and WREDA.
The idea was simple: encourage Wellingtons tech sector to bring their big picture ideas and tech to the world of sport and break all the rules. How might we use existing, emerging, and innovative technologies to improve the fan, follower and supporter experiences around the game of rugby?
For this one I collaborated with Stanford D-school Grad and friend, Emilie Fetscher to develop the journey the 10 teams were going to take in this accelerated ideation programme. It was about guiding the groups through big-picture thinking with their existing, emerging, and innovative technologies to improve the fan, follower and supporter experiences around the game of rugby – competing against each other and the clock.
The outcome was a final public presentation which was judged by an influential judging panel comprising of Westpac Stadium chief executive Shane Harmon, Westpac New Zealand head of application lifestyle management Dave Corlett,Social entrepreneur, CEO/founder of LesConcierges Inc and founder of Dispatch Management Services Linda Jenkinson, and British High Commission science officer Dr Steve Thompson.
Prizes for The Tech Ruck include tickets to an international conference, tickets to Beervana and a six-month internship at Westpac New Zealand for one graduate that shows the most promise.
The extra challenge was our three week turnaround / deadline to develop and deliver the day whilst both Emilie and I juggling other contracts. We did it though:
“As part of Wellington’s business leveraging during the DHL New Zealand Lion Series, we collaborated with DK to create a unique experience melding together the worlds of sport and tech, drawing out ideas from Wellington businesses to tackle the challenge of how to improve the sports fan experience. DK and his colleague Emilie facilitated The Tech Ruck with seamless professionalism, a positive outlook and a real can-do attitude within extremely tight project deadlines. Working with DK was a great experience and I would do so again.”
