Big Sky Montana Thinking | Hatch 2013

Hatch is about connecting a group of madly curious people and trusting in their ability to generate creative value.

Split over two locations (one in the Montana hills at the Rainbow Ranch Lodge, Big Sky and the other in the heart of Bozeman via an innovation lab / space), no other event has ever challenged me as much to be present and in the moment (hence the lack of notes):

This was due to the loosely structured agenda and being surrounded by film-makers, musicians, technologists, artists, entrepreneurs, marketeers, architects, trouble-makers, designers, writers, inventors, specialists, generalists (full attendee list here), all of whom ignited the brain with conversations that dripped in inspiration and possibility!

And oh those delicious Rugrats moments:

Deep waist bows to all attendees, partners, sponsors and obviously the organisers—humbled to have been invited and definitely learned (again) that giving is living!

1 Giant Leap | One Immense Offering

Get the extended version out from the library and experience two hours and forty minutes of pure wonderment!

Come to the edge we said, and they said no, it’s too high;
Come to the edge we said, and they said no, we’re going to fall;
Come to the edge we said, and they very reluctantly came, and we pushed, and they flew!

1 Giant Leap produced a range of emotions rarely evoked by any documentary—a pure triumph of creative excellence!

Social Media Club Wellington Presentation | Warhol: Immortal

Had the recent honour of collaborating with Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa—those lovely folks at Social Media Club Wellington invited me to share.

The blurb from the event:

DK will speak about Te Papa’s Warhol Immortal exhibition and its interactive social and digital media campaign to generate excitement around the exhibit, and get people actively participating and interacting with the campaign, which also rewarded and celebrated those active on social media channels.

He will also touch on the ins and outs of freelance social media, and being hyper aware of governance procedures when working with other organisations.

DK is a bit of veteran SMCWgtn-er, speaking at one of our events last year about getting back to the basics of social media, as well as being the awesome person who brought us TEDxTeAro!

American Embassy Wellington Digital Studio | An Opening / Opportunity

digital-studio-launch-attendees

Today I attended the opening of a new in-house digital studio at the American Embassy, Wellington, NZ.

We had a special live stream via Washington, (which showed off some of the tech) from Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, Tara Sonenshine:

And the ambassador, David Huebner spoke about the history of the room (a once traditional library) and how it now houses the capacity to:

“…to facilitate a range of digital engagement activities to further enhance the eDiplomatic outreach of the US Embassy in Wellington.”

It’s probably both the size and location of the Embassy here in NZ which affords it the opportunity to be innovative (it was the first embassy to have a Pinterest plus Instagram account), and this new investment is also a first of its kind; thus illustrating the changing commitment and understanding of traditional institutions towards the shifting landscape of [digital] engagement.
